Bruno Boys and Draft Sharks led the way in year four of the Accuracy Challenge created by the Fantasy Football Librarian.

Announced by co-manager Donnie Campbell of TheMostCredible.com at the Fantasy Sports Trade Association awards dinner Tuesday night in Las Vegas — and via The New York Times‘ Fifth Down blog Wednesdsay — the Accuracy Challenge recognized Bruno Boys for delivering the most accurate set of preseason fantasy football rankings in 2010.

Draft Sharks, meanwhile, stood alone atop the ranks in football stat projections, edging 2009 winner RotoHog.

Not to be pushed aside, RotoHog managed to come out on top for the second straight year in baseball projections.

– The most recent surveys have reportedly said that even though workers are checking in on their fantasy teams on the job, human resources departments don’t see any negative impact on productivity. The article also says that about one-fifth of employers block fantasy sites, while another one-fifth ask employees to limit time spent on fantasy.

– Is Didier Drogba the U.K.’s version of Maurice Jones-Drew, speaking directly to fans about his impact on fantasy “football”? (And what is his real name when you unscramble the letters?)

– An item we saw a while back but failed to pass along: RotoHog has split its operation to shift the B2B portion of its business under the new heading of Fastpoint Games.

– We’ve had a few inquiries recently and see a few rumors on the Web about Fanball “shuttering” it’s blog network, so we checked around. The network is still active, as one can see by visiting the Fanball homepage or member outlets such as Baseballguys.com. FSB.com was told that the remaining blogs primarily belong to people who have other roles with Fanball, while deals with individual outlets were separately settled. We were unable to get official word on the subject from Fanball.

– Papa John’s announced last week the five finalists in its promotion selecting the top fantasy football league in the country. The winner will be decided by some combination of public voting via Facebook and a panel led by Chargers tight end Antonio Gates and Matthew Berry. (As far as we’re concerned, the honor shouldn’t go to anyone other than the Kings X leagues created by Andy Mousalimas — a story that has been delayed around here by the hustle of football season but that will still be told in further detail.)

– Pickemfirst creator Alain de Raynal told FSB.com that his application was the first to be applied to Yahoo! fantasy games via the new open API there. This allows Pickemfirst users to add their Yahoo! teams to the app without having to share a password. Rumor has it that Yahoo! might also eventually set up a gallery of the best available apps, though we have yet to confirm any such plans with Yahoo!.

– Bloomberg Sports has launched a simple fantasy baseball game application on Facebook, developed by RotoHog.

– A recent study written up in the journal for the Public Library of Science purports to have found a method for measuring play-by-play contributions and performance of soccer players, whose low-scoring sport can be tricky for fantasy players.

– Motivated by his most recent viewing of Back to the Future II, ESPN’s Tristan Cockcroft has gone ahead and projected the fantasy baseball all-star team for 2014.

SportingNews.com sent out an e-mail to its users Friday evening to announce that the site will no longer offer fantasy games.

Per the message, which was signed by president/publisher Jeff Price:

“Due to a shift in our core business strategy, SportingNews.com will no longer offer new fantasy games going forward (excluding Strat-O-Matic). The fantasy industry is changing, and we feel it’s best to devote our resources to providing the best fantasy content and advice on the internet, and beyond. We believe SportingNews.com’s fantasy content, tools and advice are already best in class, and over the next few months, we will completely redesign the Fantasy Source section of our site to deliver a new and improved user experience. With this shift in strategy, we will dedicate our entire fantasy staff to building Fantasy Source into the number one destination for fantasy information, accessible via internet, mobile devices, and other new technologies.”

This shift in strategy, of course, comes less than a year after Sporting News announced a multi-sport deal with RotoHog to run its fantasy games. That relationship opened with the 2009 fantasy football season, in which the primary Draft and Trade game struggled mightily.

This decision to change direction in advance of even the first baseball season after the announced deal makes it seem as though any issues in the SN-RotoHog relationship and/or the games platform could not be worked out.

For it’s part, SN.com has partnered with CBS Sports to offer half-priced baseball commissioner leagues on CBS’ site to SN.com users who have been awaiting 2010 launch.

Sporting News has long been a particularly trustworthy source of content both in print and online, and it’s innovation with the e-mailed Sporting News Today newsletter showed that the company is constantly looking for ways to adapt to a changing media climate. We’ll see what impact the absence of fantasy games (and their stream of revenue) will have.
