ProAmTeam.com Puts You on Your Fantasy Team
Saturday, March 7th, 2009Al Bundy would love this.
ProAmTeam.com, a site backed by golf equipment and apparel producer Cleveland Golf, combines fantasy teams of actual PGA golfers with the scores of users in their own rounds for a shot at playing in a real ProAm tournament.
The contest — which costs $99 to enter — opens with the Masters on April 9 and incorporates eight other PGA Tour events: The Players Championship, the Memorial, the U.S. Open, the British Open, the PGA Championship, the Deutsche Bank Classic, Fry’s Southwestern Open and the Disney Classic.
Participants will tally the results of their chosen golfers in those events and add their own scores on rounds apparently played anywhere they want. The combined scores will determine the winner.
Neither the announcement nor the site itself specifies which event the grand prize winner will get to play. Beyond that, the variation in difficulty of courses played by contest participants could affect results, and its not clear how the site plans corroborate entered scores.
Nevertheless, incorporating your own performance into that of your fantasy team would only seem to enhance the feeling of ownership.
Now, if only I can get my backyard Wiffle ball homers to bring me roto points …
