Teixeira Serves as Yahoo’s 2009 Cover Boy
One could argue that Mark Teixeira was the biggest addition in a busy Yankees off-season. Most people would probably choose C.C. Sabathia ahead of him, though.
The first baseman stands alone, however, as the face of Yahoo fantasy sports’ Baseball ‘09 product.
Yahoo visitors will be treated to the banner at the bottom of this post, featuring the switch-hitting Teixeira.
It’s not hard to decipher why Yahoo would choose him, seeing as how Teixeira has hit at least 30 home runs and driven in more than 100 runs in each of the past five seasons and has garnered extra attention this year by moving to the Big Apple.
The company has to hope Teixeira fares better than its most recent fantasy football spokesperson. Browns receiver Braylon Edwards followed up a breakout 16-touchdown season in 2007 with the most disappointing year of his young career in 2008. Yahoo’s previous choice for baseball worked out pretty well, on the other hand, as Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins helped his team to a World Series title.
